Nathmal Ki Haveli

Nathmal Ki Haveli, located in the heart of Jaisalmer, is a spectacular 19th-century mansion built as the residence of the then Prime Minister Diwan Mohata Nathmal. This haveli stands out not just for its rich carvings and grandeur, but for the story behind its creation.

The haveli was designed by two architect brothers, Hathi and Lulu, who worked on opposite sides of the building independently — leading to a stunningly symmetrical yet slightly mismatched design that adds to its charm.

Crafted from golden-yellow sandstone, the haveli features:

  • Floral designs, peacocks, and elephants carved into the façade

  • Intricate mirror work and miniature paintings inside

  • A unique blend of Rajput and Islamic architectural styles

The entrance is guarded by two sculpted elephants and the interiors are adorned with European influences, showcasing the fusion of East and West.

Nathmal Ki Haveli is not only a masterpiece of art and architecture but also offers a glimpse into Jaisalmer’s royal and artistic legacy.
